BEIJING, February 19, 2025 — Beijing Byongen Therapeutics Co., Ltd. (Byongen Therapeutics) and Beijing Genecradle Therapeutics Technology Co., Ltd. (Genecradle Therapeutics) today announced a strategic partnership to co-develop a next-generation gene therapy for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). This collaboration merges Byongen’s cutting-edge AAV capsid engineering with Genecradle’s deep expertise in Dystrophin optimization and clinical translation to address the critical unmet needs of the DMD community.
DMD is a devastating X-linked genetic disorder caused by mutations in the DMD gene, resulting in the absence of functional dystrophin protein. This leads to progressive muscle wasting, loss of mobility in early childhood, and life-threatening cardiac or respiratory complications by early adulthood. While current standards of care manage symptoms, there remains a profound global need for therapies that target the root genetic cause of the disease.
Through this partnership, the companies will leverage Byongen’s proprietary DynEvoLib® platform—a high-throughput discovery engine combining computer-aided design with directed evolution—to identify novel AAV capsids with superior muscle-tropism and reduced immunogenicity. These next-generation vectors will be paired with Genecradle’s Smart-Dystrophin, an innovatively designed transgene optimized for enhanced biological activity and functional restoration.
